Montessori Training
Our senior management and nurse staff attended Montessori dementia training during the early months of 2021 to learn more about this method of caregiving for dementia and we’re very excited about what we have learnt. Staff attended six sessions via video meetings from both Foxburrow Grange and from their own homes to enable as many staff as possible across all the teams in the care home to attend. Staff from housekeeping, kitchen, maintenance and admin have also attended the training, alongside our carers and nurses to support residents.
“Staff members at Foxburrow Grange have completed online training with Maria Montessori Institute to learn how to adopt the Montessori approach for their residents. This innovative approach focuses on the person, not the dementia. Staff members have learnt how to make Foxburrow Grange an environment in which individuals can do as much for themselves as possible with meaningful roles, routines and activities tailored to the individual.”
Maria Montessori Institute
As our team follows the Montessori approach to dementia care, we’ve also created an environment where individuals can do as much for themselves as possible with meaningful roles, routines and activities.
Our entrance wall to Foxburrow Grange has been beautifully enhanced with the recent addition of some signwriting, illustrating the Montessori method for aged care. It is very eye catching and is the first thing you see as you come into the building.
We are very happy with the Montessori aged care method for residents. In a very short space of time residents are engaging more with lots of different tasks including tidying and washing up. Residents really enjoy getting involved. One resident now gets his own breakfast and drinks, and updates the orientation board.
Anne Kelly Endorsement
We were very happy to receive an endorsement from renowned Montessori trainer, Anne Kelly, following a virtual tour of Foxburrow Grange.
“I was delighted to go on a virtual tour and see the changes that have been made to the Badger wing as a result of Montessori for Dementia and Ageing training. Team members are to be congratulated for their hard work and for winning best care team in the Great British Care Awards. The biggest winners are the residents, whose lives have been changed as a result of Montessori and the dedication of team members who have made it happen. Changing practice and aged care culture is hard. There will always be much to do so keep the passion and continue changing the face of aged care at Foxburrow Grange, one step at a time.”
